Halloween at Hong Kong Disneyland, known as “Disney Halloween Time”, normally begins around mid-September and runs through October 31st of each year. Unlike, Disneyland and Walt Disney World, there is no special admission or “hard ticket” event to enjoy the Halloween festivities. It is included with your theme park admission. I had the chance to visit during Halloween in 2018, and it is a completely unique experience that is definitely worth checking out.
Each year Hong Kong puts out a different commercial for their event. The 2018 commercial focused on the theme of The Nightmare Before Christmas.
One thing that is exclusive to only Hong Kong Disneyland is a special-themed “haunted house”. Each year they come up with a new haunted house/theme. In 2018, the haunted house was “JOURNEY TO THE HALLOWEEN TOWN“, and as you guessed, it was themed after Nightmare Before Christmas.
CHARACTERS
As part of the theme, they had meet and greets with Jack Skellington, Sally, and Oogie Boogie! Getting a picture with Oogie Boogie is pretty incredible considering he doesn’t meet anywhere else!
The characters meet behind the castle in the “Halloween Time Festival Gardens.”
The characters have a rotating schedule which does not appear on the guide, so you may have to ask a cast member before you get in line. They will tell you who is about to come out. We managed to get a picture with Jack and Oogie Boogie!
You can also find Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, and Piglet in the Halloween Time Festival Gardens, however, they do not meet together. They have a rotating schedule. If you are looking for a specific character I would ask a cast member and they would be happy to help. We set out to find Eeyore, and he was dressed as a bat!
There are many other characters that meet during Halloween Time.
Mickey, Minnie, Chip & Dale, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, and Pluto all have special Halloween costumes. They all meet in the front of the park in Main Street U.S.A. If you want to meet Mickey and Minnie then you will need to be at the park before they open, or be prepared to wait. They are VERY popular. We ended up waiting about two hours to meet them, but it was definitely worth it! They have great costumes.
If you haven’t been to Hong Kong Disneyland before, then you might not know about Duffy and his friends. However, Duffy is really, really popular in Hong Kong. Basically, Duffy is Mickey Mouse’s stuffed teddy bear, and he has many friends in Hong Kong, including ShellieMay, Gelatoni, StellaLou, and Cookie. All of them have special Halloween costumes! Duffy has rotating meets with each of his friends at Main Street Cinema, which is right on Main Street.
ENTERTAINMENT
There are two special parades during Halloween Time. During the day is Mickey’s Halloween Time Street Party, which culminates with a show on the stage in front of the castle.
Villains Night Out! Chapter 3! At night, all the villains come out for a special parade!
MERCHANDISE
During Halloween there are a number of special merchandise items for sale. These include some fantastic plushies, and obviously we needed all of them.
HOTELS
We stayed at Disney’s Explorer’s Lodge, and I highly recommend this hotel. It has a tram that takes you direct to the park, the rooms have a fantastic view, and the hotel is absolutely stunning.
SPECIAL DINING
While Hong Kong Disney may not have any special dining inside the park, the Enchanted Garden Restaurant at Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel offers a special Halloween buffet that is incredible. Reservations are highly suggested as it is very popular. You can make reservations by calling Hong Kong Disneyland. They accept reservations 42 days in advance, or 180 days in advance if you are staying at one of the Disney properties.
The Enchanted Garden Restaurant is also a character dining experience. Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and Pluto all come out in their chef outfits.
CONCLUSION
If you are planning a trip to Hong Kong Disneyland, you should definitely consider going for Halloween Time! For more information, please check out the official Disney Hong Kong website.
And as a closing statement, here is my favorite Halloween Time commercial (from the 2016 event).
“It’s wicked fun for everyone!”
